Kent County Human Services Complex
Grand Rapids, Michigan
This new 3 story, 137,000 square foot facility for Kent County will consolidate a number of different offices, including the Kent County Health Clinic, State of Michigan Department of Human Services, Child and Adult Protective Services, and ACSET (Community Action and Michigan Works).
The project will be LEED Certified. Linear lighting in the large open office spaces was utilized along with round decorative fluorescent recessed fixtures and pendants in the lobby and corridors. Daylighting systems are utilized along the perimeter optimizing the use of sunlight in lieu of artificial lighting. A modular wiring system is installed throughout the 2nd and 3rd floors under the raised floor. This will allow for future furniture reconfigurations to be easily reconnected to the power system. A generator is provided for life safety and the computer room equipment. Exterior lighting including two parking lots exceeded ASHRAE 90.1-2004 by 70%.
